Most of the acnes heal themselves. It is just the matter of time. When the hormones in the body come to their normal level maintaining the harmony within the systems, acnes are no more. But in some cases, the acnes become stubborn and difficult to treat. Even after treatment, they leave scar marks known as acne-scars.
It is quite difficult for normal eyes to judge whether it is scar or something else. In dermatology, there are so many spots that may look like scars but in real they aren’t. Some of them include macules which are also known as “pseudo-scars” and post-inflammatory pigmentation. These types of scars are soft in touch. They are formed with sloping rolled edges that finally merge with the normal skin. The shape of these scars is either circular or linear having small size.

Generally locate themselves on cheek. They are having small size with steep sides and jagged edge. These types of scars could be deep or shallow. They are either soft or hard to touch.
Atrophic macules scars
They are very small when they are on face but equally large on the other site of the body. They have soft texture with slightly wrinkled base. The color of these scars is somewhat bluish because of blood vessels beneath them.
Depressed fibrotic scars
They are large with steep sides and sharp edges. The base of these scars is firm on touch.
Follicular macular atrophy
Also known as “perifollicular elastolysis” generally occurs on chest or back of the person. These types of acne scars are comparatively small, soft and white in color. They are usually slightly raised above the skin surface. This resembles to underdeveloped whiteheads. These types of lesions may persist for months and sometimes for years together.
Scar caused by increased tissue formation
The extra or increased formation of tissues of scar is called as keloids. They are also known as Hypertrophic scars. This is associated with abandon amounts of cell substance collagens. Collagen, if produced in excess, damages the skin cells. This overproduced collagen becomes piled up in masses made up with fibers and finally results in to the smooth, irregular and firm scars.
These typical hypertrophic scar or keloids measure about 1-2 millimeters in diameter. Some of them could be more than 1 centimeter. Medical science believe these keloids have tendency to run in families i.e. this could be hereditary and you are likely to develop keloids if your parents or grandparents had it.
