“Women are known to get acne while they are pregnant.”

Some women may get the disorder after they become pregnant, or they may make the condition worse, if they already have acne. Hormone changes are the main reason that women develop acne. The hormones called the androgens are the male hormones, and prompt the sebaceous glands to produce an oily substance called sebum.

This sebum will combine with the skin cells near the follicles and block the pores. This will become the perfect place for bacteria to feed and grow. This will lead to the inflammation of the skin, and there will be eruptions after a while.

Most of the time, acne cannot be controlled from erupting, but the disorder itself can be maintained to an extent. Women, who face this problem during pregnancy, must use a very mild soap with which they must wash their faces twice a day.

Harsh soaps will contain chemicals that will make the situation worse.

They may also use a good cleanser, and all cosmetics and face lotions must be oil free. It must be made sure that women do not use a “face scrubber” while washing the face, as it will make the condition worse. They must wash their face only with their hands.

The skin must be gently touched and wiped, instead of rubbing it, as it will make the acne sites very sore. If you suffer from acne, it must not be rubbed or touched in any way. This will only cause more irritation and redness in the area.

Makeup must not be kept on over night as this may clog the pores. All cosmetics should be water based too, as oil based ones can make acne worse. Treating acne during pregnancy must be done with care. Instead of buying over the counter medicines, you must take the advice of a dermatologist about which cream or lotion to use, to allow the acne to subside.

“Oral medication” must not be taken during this stage to control acne, and only creams must be used. Those creams with tetracycline must be avoided too. Oral pills may affect the birth of the child.

Since there is no way to predict the formation of acne during pregnancy, the least one can do is to control it when it arrives.

Daily exercise is recommended, and women must also consume fresh vegetables and fruits. This will help stimulate circulation to all parts of the body including the skin.

While washing the acne infected areas, the water must always be totally dried from the surface, and it must not be allowed to seep in to the skin, as it may cause more irritation.

“Moisturizers must also be very soft and oil free, and it must not be rubbed too close to the acne. You may also use an astringent to cleanse the infected areas.” Make sure to use a lot of cotton, and do not rub used cotton on any other infected areas. This will only allow the bacteria to grow more.
